BT is upgrading phone, broadband, and ISDN lines to a new network
A new telephone network currently being introduced by BT offers more, better, and
faster services. BT's next-generation network (they call it their 21st Century Network
or 21CN for short) is great news for business, but it's not an excuse for a rash
decision. Despite the scaremongering of some elements within the telecoms industry,
there's no need to rush into anything without considering all the options.
That's because a national roll-out cannot happen overnight. BT's upgrade of the UK's
phone, broadband, and ISDN lines will take several years to complete. Some areas
of the country won't be switched over till 2011.
Whether you need to do anything now depends on when the switch-over occurs in your
area and what services you have connected to the current network. For example, some
services such as care-home panic buttons may not work after the switch over. Most
services will continue as normal. That's why the first step is to find out what elements
of your business, if any, will be affected.
